The Research and Innovation teams, whose number has increased eight-fold in 20 years, constantly strive to be at the forefront of scientific advances, working in collaboration with the world's leading experts in each field.  The results of their work are subject each year to several hundred patent applications and give rise to thousands of formulas. Research and Innovation is today more than 3,800 researchers in thirty disciplines, from basic to applied research, through product development.

As an Analyst in our Patents Department, your main responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Creating, updating, and maintaining databases, systems, and web-based applications related to patent coverage and patent marking activities
  • Working with patent attorneys and agents in patent coverage and patent marking reviews of formulas for the Americas zone
  • Performing analysis and review of patent claims, claim scope (cartography) and patent specifications under the supervision of patent attorneys and agents
  • Retrieving, reviewing, and documenting product and ingredient information and other related information (e.g., processes, commercial activities) for patent coverage and patent marking
  • Working with the global Patent and Americas R&I groups as well as US corporate groups and the brand divisions on patent coverage and marking-related matters
  • Working with IT groups and with vendors to develop and implement web-based systems and databases for patent coverage and marking
  • Educating and training researchers on patent coverage and marking procedures and use of related databases
  • Preparing reports and presentations on activities related to patent coverage and patent marking
  • Providing support on patent activities related to competitor products, marketing claims and communications involving patents, and patent enforcement matters as needed
  • Providing support on the department’s patent filing, prosecution, freedom to operate, and docketing activities as needed
  • Committing to keeping abreast of changes in US patent law, case law and competitor activities related to patent marking and be able to share knowledge with team members


  • Requires Chemistry/Biology/Chemical Engineering/Biochemistry degree
  • Knowledge of US patent law, the IP process, FTO (freedom to operate) concepts
  • Experience with reading/analyzing patent claims
  • Experience with U.S. patent information retrieval systems (e.g., PAIR, and EFS-Web) and obtaining legal status of patents
  • Familiarity with ingredients and formulations in the cosmetic industry
  • Familiarity with web-based systems
  • Ideally, with at least 3 years of work experience in a corporate setting
  • Excellent computer skills and knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Strong organizational and excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be detail oriented and be able to work independently
