What are we looking for? 

The microbiology team in advanced research Singapore is responsible for conducting upstream research within the scope of the skin and scalp microbiome.  Within this broad domain, the team is involved in multi-disciplinary research across various fields and works very closely with the clinical research team, downstream product development teams and also external partners possessing diverse research expertise.  The goal of the advanced research team is to identify innovative concepts and raw materials for development of novel cosmetic, dermatology and consumer care products.

L’Oréal is currently looking for a motivated and proactive research assistant to help perform microbiological and cellular assays related to the skin/scalp microbiome.  The work scope could involve working with raw materials, or assisting in upstream experiments focused on deciphering the role of microbes in various skin/scalp phenotypes.  The successful candidate for this position should possess skills for performing microbiological research. Experience with cell culture and/or immune assays will be an asset. The candidate would report to the microbiology project leader for L’Oréal Singapore and is expected to be flexible in working in L’Oréal labs or labs belonging to external collaborators.

Key Requirements:

  • Strong academic credentials - BSc in Biological Sciences
  • 3-5 years relevant experience
  • Ability to quickly learn and apply newly acquired knowledge
  • Demonstrated experience in handling and maintaining tissue culture cells, and the ability to grow and maintain bacteria and/or fungi
  • Experience in practical laboratory techniques
  • Active interest in inter-disciplinary research work
  • Good organizational skills and adaptability to regularly changing priorities and workloads
  • Effective communication skills and experience in collaborative research projects and inter-group communication
  • Responsible for the general maintenance of the Microbiology Laboratory including good housekeeping and a safe working environment.
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures, safety, and health Guidelines.
  • Responsible for troubleshooting, maintenance, and calibration of laboratory equipment.
  • Order and maintain appropriate level of laboratory supplies
  • Proficient with current word processing, spreadsheets, and database software.
