HVAC Mechanic

1st shift - Schedule - 8:00 am-4:30 pm

Job Summary: 

Operate as a team member of the plant facilities group, 80% of the time solely on HVAC, 20% as a facilities mechanic.  Responsible for all building, utility, and site systems. Monitor and maintain plant utility supply of deionized and chilled water, low pressure steam, compressed air, bulk materials and waste water. Perform water chemical testing for boilers, waste water, and chillers and to maintain accurate records. Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on plant utilities equipment generated from a CMMS system. Interact well with outside contractors and vendors.

Troubleshoot plant electrical control, lighting, plumbing, specializing in HVAC systems. Monitor and maintain the plant fire sprinkler system, including fire pump, and the alarm monitoring panel. Perform routine calibrations of plant instruments, including level gauges, flow meters, temperature, and pressure indicators. Read and utilize process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams, and general blueprints. Maintain/ coordinate repairs to all plant utility piping and electrical systems.

Job Requirements:

 HVAC duties; 7-10 years experience in HVAC work. 480V 3 phase experience essential. Knowledge of Lennox and Diaken HVAC units to 50 tons required. Ability to braze, change compressors, charge units, current EPA refrigeration license required. Able to work with 134A, 410A and R22 refrigerants. Able to modify units to add carbon filtration as necessary.

Kentucky Journeyman’s License an advantage. Knowledge of make-up air units, and small refrigeration required.

Ability to troubleshoot using digital volt meter required.

Chillers – knowledge of York screw chillers and Carrier reciprocating scroll chillers required. Ability to calibrate temperature and pressure transducers required. 

Boilers – Knowledge of low-pressure steam systems required. Ability to use a combustion analyzer required.

Knowledge of Sellers steam and hot water boilers required. Knowledge of hot water copper fin boiler an advantage.

Ability to carry out annual teardown of boilers, replace flame rod, replace relief valves, clean burners and open water side for inspection required. Knowledge of high efficiency water heaters and modulating burners required.

Facilities duties; - 7-10 years’ experience in electrical and mechanical troubleshooting (education plus experience, including military technical training) required;

Able to understand mechanical drawings, P & ID's and electrical schematics;

Knowledge of proper wiring procedures, circuit diagrams and electrical power for single and three phase systems;

Knowledge of troubleshooting PLC based control systems;

Must be willing to work overtime

Essential Physical Requirements:

 Occasional lifting up to 50lbs;

Occasional bending;

Long periods of standing;

Continuous movement throughout the plant
