Summary of Key Job Accountabilities

The VP of Planning & Allocation, Retail, leads and directs the Planning Team and coordinates with key members of the Marketing, Retail Operations and Supply Chain teams’ to deliver the right assortment of products to our free standing retail stores to achieve the business goal.   TheVP collaborates on strategic initiatives, long term planning and financial analysis, and participates in the development and execution of assortment plans, including promotions, animations, forecasting, product buys, sell thru, and allocations to retail stores.


Key Business and People Objectives

  • Develop a strong relationship between Planning, Marketing and Demand Planning  to ensure accurate forecasting, approve product category assortment plans by season, analyze product history and sales trends
  • Lead the planning and analysis of historical data and current trends to identify risks and opportunities to the business, and recommend strategies to correct and achieve sales plans – share with Marketing and Retail Operations.
  • Provide item level history for Marketing team to use as part of their product assortment, promotional and activation strategy
  • Participate in cross-functional initiatives to develop processes and systems to support forecasting, replenishment, and allocations
  • Build category and product unit sales targets by month and quarter with Marketing and Demand Planning team
  • Create monthly inventory flow tied to unit sales plan, by month for quarter, at the category level in partnership with Marketing
  • Manage the plan, actual sales and month ending inventory targets; review seasonal assortment and promotional strategy to ensure inventory buy will fit within sales goals and visual merchandising plan
  • Manage seasonal and new product flow strategies to maximize sales and customers’ expectations
  • Lead the Planning & Allocation team in post-mortem analysis; communicate opportunities and successes across all functional groups.
  • Lead and develop a high-performance Planning & Allocation team, including promoting a collaborative approach, coaching and leadership development

  • Required travel: 15-20% in retail stores


Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Minimum 7 years of Retail Planning experience – preferably within apparel or consumer products
  • Advanced computer skills (Excel – pivot tables/ v-lookups/etc., Word, Internet)
  • Expert level of knowledge around planning processes, analytical tools, and managing a planning organization
  • Knowledge of supply chain management – demand, inventory, purchasing and delivering plans
