Position Summary

The Essie West Regional Business Manager is responsible for planning, managing, and executing the complex aspects of the Essie Professional business within the West Area territory.     This includes managing current nail distribution and nail bar/salon customers along with conquesting new markets (for new distributor and salon sales). 


The Manager will be responsible for all sales operations within the West Area territory (encompassing the states of:  WA, OR, CA, AZ, NM, CO, UT, NV, WY, MT, ID).  This includes achieving monthly sales targets; program implementation for the assurance of product sell-through; trade budget management; customer inventory planning; and customer relationship building.


The candidate will directly manage 2 California broker reps from the CFN broker organization, plus be responsible for building a new broker agency relationship that will extend sales coverage through the “non California” markets.


Success will be driven by sharp customer strategy and planning (monthly volume goals, promotional programs/budget, and brand merchandising), solid customer relationships (built by frequent in person sales calls), analysis and fulfillment of customer needs, and management of product supply, pricing, and product sell-movement (ultimately into the local salons/nail bars).


This position’s focus is on accelerated growth – over achievement of net sales volume and profit goals, brand share in professional nail market, brand penetration in nail bars and salons.





Essential Duties and Responsibilities














  • Develop monthly customer sales targets and annual promotional plans for existing accounts.
  • Open new states for the Essie brand, via conquest of new distributors.
  • Establish regular call schedule for customer base.
  • Manage the efforts of 2 CFN broker reps in California to success.
  • Build new broker agency relationship and sales effectiveness to cover non-California territories to meet new territory sales and distribution goals.
  • Enhance brand merchandising and environment within the distributor and salon/bar:  Ensure Essie displays and shelving goals achieved; ensure Essie POS materials are executed.
  • Set/manage everyday brand pricing and promotional pricing programs.
  • Conduct analysis of sales to measure customer inventory and brand performance metrics (i.e. promotional effectiveness)
  • Create reports to track performance by customer against goals.
  • Meet/exceed new product launch targets.
  • Responsible for ensuring all spending for West is within budget and in accordance with spending policies:   T&E, trade fuel spending, special project labor, special promotional programs, and markdown programs.




The Essie West Regional Business Manager leads all customer relationships (whether direct or with broker reps) for the West sales territory.  This business-minded individual takes personal responsibility for achieving monthly sales results without compromising quality standards.  Their direct manager is the VP of Sales, whom they will build a strong and productive relationship with.  Secondary relationship is with GM of the business.  This person has strong interpersonal skills and can work autonomously and in an entrepreneurial manner with proven track record of success in the nail industry.






ü  Bachelors Degree required.

ü  Requires 5-7 years of progressive growth within CPG or Professional-related product sales organization with demonstrated sales results specifically in the nail category.

ü  Requires high degree of successful management ability in key areas:  sales, accounts, team selling, operations, budget management.

ü  Exceptional track record of account relationship management.

ü  Aggressive results orientation – ability to use innovative means to achieve results is a must:  building new business with distributors; conversion of salons to Essie salons.

ü  In depth understanding of the supply chain and decision making processes to successfully partner work with cross functional teams.

ü  Excellent problem solving and influencing skills.

ü  Must have demonstrated analytical approach to account and business management, excellent communication skills, and interpersonal skills required in successfully representing the company in the marketplace.

ü  Job will be based in the West, most likely in Northern California.

  • Knowledge of and experience in selling to beauty/nail distributors.
  • Ability to personal sell (1:1 in salon environment); quickly assess situations; articulate customer needs; attention to services and generating ideas for incremental salon business with nail opportunity.
