Scientist, Hair Instrumental / Clinical Evaluation

We are seeking a creative Scientist to join our Hair Instrumental/Clinical Team. As a key member of the team you’ll design, coordinate and execute Hair Instrumental studies for exploratory knowledge studies, aid to formulation testing, and claims substantiation. In this function you will be working cross functionally with the development labs (Hair care & styling and Hair color) as well as safety, regulatory and claims legal teams. 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Designs, proposes, effectively executes, analyzes, and communicates on instrumental testing for knowledge studies, aid to formulation testing, and claims substantiation for hair projects;
  • Collaborates with labs, outside vendors, international colleagues, and evaluation team to determine which test methods are needed;
  • Drives projects from inception to completion with quality, timeliness, and professionalism;
  • Prioritizes project workload with supervisor, performs project tracking and scheduling;
  • Analyzes instrumental test data and writes reports and memos to clearly communicate findings;
  • Evaluates and summarizes published literature (internal and external) on various topics surrounding hair and hair testing;
  • Works on expanding hair knowledge
  • Develops ways to improve efficiency of daily operation of the team.

Requirements:

  • Bachelors with 3+ years of relevant working experience in Evaluation or Masters with 1+ years of relevant working experience in Evaluation; preferred areas of study include Biological, Physical or Material Sciences, Chemical Engineering or Bio-Engineering, Computer Science/Software Development/Programming, Mechanical Engineering, or related fields
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication (written/oral), and organizational skills
  • Capable of working in a matrix organization, including strong teamwork skills
  • Experience coordinating product testing with outside vendors
  • Ability to independently collaborate and negotiate with vendors
  • Technical writing skills
  • Experience with experimental lab work
  • Experience with mechanical testing, tensile and fatigue testing, Instron, Diastron, Spectrophotometer, Differential Scanning Calorimetry, clinical photography, and/or Scanning Electron Microscopy highly desirable
  • Knowledge of hair, cosmetic properties and substrate – product relationship a plus
  • Proficiency in statistical and data analysis a plus
  • Knowledge of image-analysis and computational software such as MatLab, LabVIEW, ImageJ, and ImagePro a plus
  • Must be able to work on several complex projects at the same time with flexibility and organization
  • Must be proficient in Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the US on an on-going basis
