The role:
As the Cloud Lead, you will be responsible for overseeing the architecture, development, and operation of our platform infrastructure. You’ll bring your deep expertise in managed services on Azure to ensure reliability, scalability, and performance of the platform. We’re looking for someone who is passionate about getting their hands deep in the code, while also being a strategic leader who can mentor and grow a team as we scale.
This is a unique opportunity to join a “startup” in the early days and help it scale both in user traffic but also geographically. You will have direct impact on how well the platform scales.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead Platform Development: Scale and optimise current platform development work, bringing it to production-ready quality, and evolving it to meet future needs around security, scalability & availability. Also act as the main cloud / platform architect for the team.
- Hands-On Engineering: Actively contribute to designing, coding, and deploying scalable infrastructure solutions. You’ll be writing code and configuring cloud services, setting the technical direction for the team.
- Azure Cloud Expertise: Build, manage, and optimize managed services on Azure (e.g., Azure Kubernetes Service, Azure DevOps, Azure Functions, etc.).
- Infrastructure as Code: Develop and maintain infrastructure using automation tools like Terraform, ARM Templates, or similar technologies.
- CI/CD Pipelines: Build and maintain continuous integration and delivery pipelines to ensure smooth deployments and rapid iteration across all maintained environments (dev, staging & production).
- Monitoring and Performance: Implement monitoring and alerting solutions to ensure platform reliability and performance. Troubleshoot issues when they arise.
- Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers, software engineers, and security teams, to ensure platform alignment with business goals.
- Communication: Strong appetite to share the outcomes of the team such as presenting to the company a roadmap, a sprint demo, … and regular reports for the venture.
- Mentorship: Mentor junior engineers, fostering a collaborative, learning environment within the team.
- Future Growth: Be a thought leader in driving the evolution of our platform, recommending new tools, technologies, and architectures to push the system to the next level.
Requirements:
- 5+ years experience as a lead tech/senior, with 3+ years as a hands-on Platform Engineer, DevOps Engineer, or similar role, ideally in a startup or fast-paced environment.
- Strong proficiency with Azure managed services (e.g., AKS, Azure DevOps, Virtual Networks, App Services).
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform, ARM Templates, etc.).
- Proficient in building and managing CI/CD pipelines with a preference for Github actions - CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a passion for troubleshooting and optimizing systems.
- Experience with monitoring tools like Datadog or Azure Monitor.
- Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker
- Proven leadership experience and ability to mentor a growing team.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with teams.
- Bonus:
- Experience with micro-services architecture and serverless computing.
- Experience in high-availability, high-traffic environments.
- Knowledge of security best practices for cloud infrastructure.
