Executive Summary:

 

The Head of Corporate Affairs works to promote and protect the Group’s reputation in the UK and Ireland as the world’s largest beauty company.   

 

The position reports to the Director of Scientific, Regulatory and Corporate Affairs and is part of an in-house communications team of three, with the other two members holding responsibility for internal communications and CSR.  

 

Based in the Hammersmith HQ of the Paris listed company, the role demands a high level of leadership, independence and  agility.  The successful candidate will have considerable corporate communications experience, including issues management and media relations.



Purpose of your new role:



This role focuses on: promoting the Group’s activities and values through impactful corporate communications activity; and protecting corporate reputation through anticipation and effective management of issues. 

 


Your key job accountabilities:

 


Corporate communications



  • Develop and deliver a UK specific corporate communications strategy  which promotes the core messages of the L’Oréal Group and builds awareness and credibility of L’Oréal as a respected business in the UK
  • Work closely with Paris HQ to develop impactful media relations campaigns and provide market specific media advice
  • Manage UK press office in-house, including all media enquiries, systems and tools, for maximum efficiency and impact 
  • Manage communications  agency strategy and  functional budget.

 


Issues management:


  • Maintain robust issues and crisis communications procedures and processes, including crisis communication preparedness, monitoring and responses. 
  • Handle all reactive media queries relating to the Group in the UK
  • Provide issues support and counsel to brand communications teams
  • Represent L'Oréal  UKI on industry committees which ensures L'Oréal  is up to date, aware and included as appropriate in issues



Budgetary control:



The role will have responsibility for effective management of the media relations budgets, keeping in regular contact with Finance controllers and reporting to the Director.

The network you would work with:



In the UK, you will work closely with senior management, brand communications, marketing, scientific and legal teams.


Internationally, you will have close relationship with Group communications, external affairs and sustainable development teams.



Qualifications / skills required:



  • Educated to degree level
  • Skills in communications equivalent to those gained over 8-10 years ideally gained in-house
  • Experience working in  a multi-branded matrix organisational structure
  • Strong demonstrable track record of front line issues management experience
  • Excellent communication (written and spoken), negotiation and presentational skills
  • Strategic thinker with ability to move effortlessly between strategy, implementation and tactical opportunities
  • Ability to rapidly digest and distil complex issues and formulate strategy / responses
  • Ability to establish, exploit and influence effective networks at all levels
  • Confident, persuasive individual who is at ease with both senior management and external stakeholders
  • Great team player with positive and enthusiastic approach
