L’Oreal R&I China / Skincare / Pre-development Whitening and UV protection categories


 


SUMMARY


This position is responsible for managing the pre-development programs of Whitening and UV protection categories within the Skincare group. The Manager manages a team of professionals that execute formulation projects, and interacts extensively with the various R&I teams globally, including but not limited to Evaluation, Consumer & Market Insights, Packaging, Regulatory, Microbiology, Applied and Advanced Research, and Senior Management. The Manager is responsible for projects from definition (transforming consumer insights/needs into projects) to proof of Performance to transfer to Development labs. He/She drives accountability at every stage of the pre-development project life cycle.  


 


REPORTING – Reports to the Director of Pre-Development, Skincare, L’Oreal R&I China


 


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


PROJECTS


  • Manage all pre-dev programs for the L’Oreal Skincare R&I group based Shanghai (China) related to Whitening and UV protection categories, in line with the L’Oreal R&I China innovation strategy and Global innovation strategy of each category.

  • Proposes creative ideas or scientific concepts based on consumer insights; Translates consumer/market insights into outstanding product performance goals.

  • Create new technologies and products to maximize perceived performance ; Suggest cross-disciplinary innovation strategies within organization  

  • Translate science and projects into consumer performance verbiage to promote and share new technologies with Management and with other R&I hubs

  • Ensure that proper evaluation plans are developed and implemented to demonstrate performance of new technologies.


LAB / PEOPLE MANAGEMENT


  • Supervise laboratory operations to ensure the prompt availability of quality products that are safe and effective.


  • Manage a team of 10, including lab scientists and managers.
  • Recruit, develop and manage teams; ensure the development of know-how and expertise and contribute to organizational development
  • Tracks program KPIs (schedule, product cost targets, efficacy goals etc.) and ensures compliance with project management tools.
  • Effectively works with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment throughout the organization, supporting the overall goals of each project.
  • Manage projects budgets.


 


 


 


 


REQUIREMENTS


  • MS degree in chemistry, engineering or related scientific field (pHD is a +)
  • 10+ years’ experience in personal care formulation / product development or personal care raw materials
  • 5+ years’ experience in people management
  • Excellent interpersonal/communications and presentation skills
  • Acts / Leads with human sensitivity
  • Displays sensitivity to personal care
  • Entrepreneurial spirit
  • Ability to lead, influence, create and work within cross-functional and cross-cultural global team environments to ensure collective performance ; Manages complexity
  • Assertive, take-charge, proven manager with a strong results orientation, positive “can do” attitude and a sense of urgency to get things done
