Main Description:

Responsible for Open Development R&I training, onsite technical support, and formula conception process alignment for NYX contract manufacturers and vendors in Asia.

Accountabilities for Principal Scientist NYX Asia

  • Give feedback to NYX US OD team on the vendors technical capabilities (ex, lab personal qualifications, formulation skills, ability to trouble shoot)

  • Keep good relationship with vendors to insure product and information quality in a timely fashion

  • Go onsite at the vendors as needed for NYX technical support. This may include formulation and scale-up support

  • Help NYX establish vendor formula conception process guidelines

    • Guidelines including following the Guidelines for Open Development Products Formulation, formula document submission, stability and compatibility testing procedures, sampling to NYX US team for product testing (micro, safety, claims)

  • Assist brands with vendor training to improve “right the first time” formulas that are ready to be reviewed by Safety and Regulatory at the time of vendor submission

  • These trainings topics include:

    • Guidelines for Open Development Products Formulation (Restrictive List)

    • Raw material documentation requirements

    • Formula testing: stability, safety, analytical, and micro testing

    • Formula specification sheet

    • ODNet

  • Conduct gap analyses and work with cross functional teams (Packaging, Compatibility, Micro, DIMP and internal R&I teams) on vendor alignment

  • Once gap analyses are completed, work with these cross functional teams to develop a road map to close these gaps and finalize the alignment

  • Vendor alignment categories include:

    • Stability

    • Compatibility

    • Micro testing

    • Heavy metal testing

    • Specifications

    • Raw material dossier requirements

  • Maintain a database of vendor alignment status and key vendor technical strengths and areas of improvement for L’Oreal global OD teams

  • Conduct audits of vendors to confirm ongoing use of aligned procedures

  • Join NYX for yearly vendor reviews and present gaps and vendor report card status updates

 

 

Qualifications

7+ in cosmetic industry or related field including formulation experience

Scale up or manufacturing experience is a plus

Experience trouble shooting in manufacturing

People management experience

Ability to work with multifunctional teams

Good communication

Good organization skills

Flexible schedule to travel as needed

Agile and flexible on prioritization

Able to multitask and manage complexity

Familiar with quality testing criteria and requirements (ex. Heavy metal testing, micro control testing of the finished good)

Flexibility to travel to NYX vendors in Asia (China, Taiwan, Korea)

Bilingual, Mandarin and English is necessary
