Director - Category Development and Insights


Mission and defining characteristics

-Explore, develop and leverage deep shoppers and social insights to drive category selling stories

-Accelerate growth of the category and our brands
Main tasks
Develop, own and drive category shopper expertise to drive $ growth

-Identify Shopper specific category needs and work with Shopper Insights team on learning plan to fulfill gaps

-Build and maintain true understanding of market and category trends and omni-channel category insights

-Build compelling selling stories synchronizing Consumer/Shopper/ Category Data and Research.

-Provide omni-channel shopper data and insights that support key initiatives and helps to validate projects and recommendations

-Based on insights and customer knowledge, Identify CPD Long Term brands growth opportunities and defines the CPD portfolio strategies to maximize the potential. 

-Be the Voice of the Shopper to communicate, influence and drive the category within the multi functional team

-Direct account interaction providing industry thought leadership on market performance, trends and insights. 

-Responsibility for managing and advancing the commercial use of modern selling tools i.e. Beauty Lab, Social Listening 

-Support executive management for top to top meetings i.e. NACDS

Drive consistent CPD category guidelines within all key shopper-driven recommendations

-Ensure alignment between all brands on selling story and opportunities for CPD overall to win offline and online at the account

-Identify grey/white space opportunities/ segment & channel for CPD brand/category portfolio within the multifunctional team.

Own and Drive category and shopper toolkit usage among Multifunctional team as well as future developments

-Become the expert of all category and shopper tools: Netbase, CDJ, cookbook, spectra, Nielsen, Kantar, WSL, Stylus, etc

-Activate usage of category and shopper tools with multi functional teams, with a focus on shopper marketing teams.


Main interfaces

Internal: Category Development Team, Marketing Team, Shopper Marketing Team, CMI/Shopper Insights Team, DMI Team, Executive Management,

External: Supporting Vendors i.e. Kantar, Nielsen, WSL, IPSOS


Measures of success

-CPD and Brands market share across all channels, incl. emerging / omni-channel

-Quality of the Internal and external Strategic insights
-Continued content development & socialization with corss functional teams.
-Deliver category projects aiming at putting shopper in the driving seat
Effective Collaboration with Shopper Marketing and Marketing Ops to develop category strategy and drive shopper penetration
-Recognition as category shopper expert
-Up to 36 months growth horizon
-Team 360 feedback
-Minimum 10 years’ experience in a marketing, Cat Dev or Sales role

-Strategic entrepreneurial problem solver and researcher.

-Ability to build stories leveraging analytics and insights.

-Proven ability to develop sharp insight and build it into action plans to optimize sales and profit

-Beauty, retail, shopper insights and/or digital experience.

-Strong presentation skills
