The role sits within the Intellectual Property & Media Legal Department of L’Oréal and provides the opportunity to work on a busy international trademark & design portfolio on exciting brands and launches. 

The Intellectual Property & Media legal team is based in our headquarters outside Paris and two positions within the team, including this Trademark Paralegal position, are based in Hammersmith, London. 

This role will be ideal for a driven and highly organized Paralegal, able to work autonomously, to prioritize competing deadlines and with good communication skills.  

You Will:

Provide paralegal and formalities support throughout the whole trademarks and designs lifecycle, including:
  • Instruct clearance searches
  • Prepare and file (directly as well as through overseas attorneys) new trademark and design applications
  • Liaise with the responsible trademark attorney for the prosecution of these applications through to registration
  • Docket and manage deadlines, keep the internal IP management database up to date
  • Instruct trademark and design renewals
  • Record registrable transactions with the IP offices, liaising as required with overseas attorneys.
  • Work closely with the responsible attorneys for the general management of the portfolio you will be responsible for.
Provide paralegal support for contentious and pre-contentious matters, including : 
  • Report potentially conflicting trademarks to foreign agents for advice
  • Assist with online searches
  • Docket and manage deadlines, keep the internal IP management database up to date
  • Gather required information, e.g., evidence of use, registration certificates, powers of attorney, etc
Provide general admin support, including: 
  • process incoming mail
  • be responsible for the handling of and processing of all original documents
  • handle notarization and legalization procedures
  • monitor the UKIPO current account funds
  • process invoices from overseas agents, raise purchase orders and assist with budget management.

You Have: 

  • The Trademark Paralegal qualification of the UK Chartered Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys (CITMA)
  • At least 3-5 years experience working in an IP department in-house or in a trademark department in private practice
  • Experience of the usual IP searching tools online and of working with an IP management software
  • A working-knowledge of French will be an advantage
  • The role is based in Hammersmith, London but will require (context permitting) regular trips to France to liaise with the IP & Media team in our headquarters.
