KEY JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES
Under the supervision of the Zone Tax Director, the Head of Tax manages the tax aspects of countries without a dedicated country tax director.
She/He contributes to the creation and protection of L’Oréal's assets by advising and guiding internal clients (regions, countries, business areas, etc.) in all matters concerning tax regulations, and by assisting the Zone Tax Director with the implementation of global initiatives. The role includes:
• Guiding and advising on tax compliance: tax returns, tax payments, etc.
• Contributing to the preparation and follow-up of tax claims, tax credits (customs formalities, tax deductions)
• Anticipating, identifying, evaluating tax risks within the Zone and providing solutions
• Contributing to the management and coordination of tax audits, tax litigations
• Communicating efficiently with the Internal Tax network to alert and raise awareness of tax matters relating to business projects and risks (CFOs, L’Oréal headquarters, tax contacts including the Zone and the Group Tax Department)
• Developing close coordination and cohesion with the internal tax stakeholders (country, zone, and Group Tax department) for relevant tax matters
• Developing a “tax intelligence” and monitor changes in laws / practices (expertise, technical competencies, alerts)
• Developing an efficient professional network to collect best practices, tax alerts…and representing the Company’s interests on tax issues when necessary
• Leading and managing external tax providers (lawyers, advisers…)
PROFESSIONAL & TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES
With at least 10-15 years of international tax experience (ideally both as a consultant and in-house), the Head of Tax will have a proven track record of working with various jurisdictions, and of liaising successfully with various stakeholders, notably country CFOs. In addition, the Head of Tax shall:
EXPERTISE IN TAX REGULATIONS AND INTERNAL STANDARDS
• Remain continuously updated of relevant tax/customs changes
• Know tax/customs internal norms and standards and contribute to their evolution
• Request and challenge external expertise
• Investigate and analyse with precision tax risks and opportunities
• Establish and maintain an efficient professional network and leverage said network to share best practices
DECODE & INFLUENCE
• Clarify & simplify concepts to better meet expectations & advise properly in order to facilitate decision-making: pedagogical approach
• Listen actively and decode facts and situations in order to make the correct diagnosis
• Find alternative options/solutions to meet business needs
PROACTIVE BUSINESS PARTNER (TAX)
• Understand, challenge & improve OA envir. & bus. & provide strat. tax/customs advice & reco. contributing to overall effective. of bus.
• Develop a close relationship with his/her internal clients to raise awareness and to develop good reflexes on tax/customs issues
• Interact effectively and work closely with the Tax community as well as other functions (CFOs, accountants, controllers, legal, IT etc.)
PROACTIVE RISK MANAGER
• Anticipate and prevent tax risks
• Evaluate the financial and fiscal impacts to have a better view of the tax / customs challenges
• Negotiate & convince internal actors (CFOs, Accounting, Controlling, IT, Legal ...) & external (Tax administration, lobbies, consultants ...)
• Mobilize internal and external actors to solve issues
• Ensure effective and timely reporting to internal stakeholders: hierarchy, the Group Tax Department
• Take ownership of action plans and follow-up on tax issues
