Inside L’Oréal’s Research & Innovation Division, Product Performance Evaluation is responsible for working with our over 35 brands, marketing, and scientists to design studies, collect feedback, and make important conclusions regarding our products using the latest instruments, methodologies, and techniques. We value the development of products that consumers find innovative, reliable, and sustainable. Whether it’s a product from one of our luxury brands, our professional products, or our consumer brands, we provide rigorous testing to ensure our consumers are getting the safest and highest quality products and experiences.

 

We are looking for talent that is obsessed with testing out the latest in beautyuses data to back up important claims, and has a deep drive to ensure beauty products are held to the highest standards in quality and safety.

 

We are seeking a creative Scientist to join our Hair Instrumental and Clinical Claims Teams. As a key member of the team you’ll work on instrumental testing for aid-to-formulation, claims substantiation and innovation projects specifically for hair products manufactured by L’Oreal USA.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Organizes, plans, and effectively executes instrumental testing to support aid to formulation, claims substantiation and innovation studies for hair products;
  • Maintains instrumentation and laboratory equipment and ensures proper operation/maintenance documentation;
  • Analyzes instrumental test data and prepares reports, memos, and presentations to clearly communicate findings and share information with colleagues;
  • Works with 3rd party vendors to design, coordinate, and execute appropriate instrumental testing for hair products to support claims substantiation;
  • Works to improve and adapt existing methods. Collaborates with development labs, international colleagues, and the evaluation team to determine which tests are needed;
  • Trains on all relevant current methods as well as new methods that are deployed. Assists with validation for claims purposes when necessary.
  • Evaluates and summarizes published literature (internal and external) on relevant hair assessment topics;
  • Drives projects from inception to completion with quality, timeliness, and professionalism;
  • Prioritizes projects workload with supervisor, performs project tracking and scheduling;
  • Develops ways to improve efficiency of daily operation of the Instrumental/Clinical Evaluation group.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelors with 1-3 years of relevant working experience; OR Masters with 0-2 years of relevant working experience; preferred areas of study include Biological, Physical or Material Sciences, Chemical or Biomedical/Bio-Engineering, Physics/Optics, Color Science or related fields
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication (written/oral), and organizational skills
  • Must be able to work on several complex projects at the same time with flexibility and organization
  • Experience with experimental lab work and equipment maintenance and troubleshooting is required
  • Experience in processing data and statistical analysis is required
  • Experience in image processing (ImageJ, ImagePro) is a plus
  • Programming skills are a plus, especially with computational software, such as Labview, Matlab, C++, or Java
  • Experience in Spectrophotometer, shine measurement, wet and dry combing, and/or repeated grooming, highly desirable
  • Technical writing skills a must
  • Experience with experimental lab work and equipment maintenance and troubleshooting a must
  • Must be proficient in Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook
