What You Will Do:

Your primary responsibility will be to provide preventive, proactive legal advice and solutions on a broad range of human resources and employment law topics, reporting directly to L’Oréal’s Vice President & Associate General Counsel, Employment Law.  You will exemplify strong managerial skills and sensitivity as a key member of a multi-cultural, fast-paced, global workforce. Day-to-day, you will:

·       Assist in investigating complaints of unfair or inappropriate treatment of employees.

  • Provide preventive, practical and proactive legal advice on a broad range of employment law and employee relations issues.
  • Prepare and deliver training materials regarding various employment topics.
  • Stay abreast of new legal decisions and statutory developments and provide advice to clients regarding those developments.
  • Manage all aspects of employment litigation and administrative charges, including risk assessment, development of case strategy, and management of outside counsel.
  • Help structure relationships with managed service providers, staffing companies and other providers of contingent labor.
  • Assist with due diligence related to potential mergers, acquisitions and other business combinations.
  • Provide guidance on employment related policies, programs, and initiatives.
  • Provide employment law guidance on issues covering employees across the United States, utilizing outside counsel where necessary.
  • Provide legal advice concerning immigration-related compliance and mobility issues.

What We Are Looking For:

Our ideal candidate will have:

·       J.D. degree from an accredited law school and strong academic credentials.

  • Member in good standing with the New York State bar.
  • Minimum of 4- 7 years of experience in Employment Law.

·       Solid judgment with exemplary respect and integrity toward others.

  • Comfort with providing advice and guidance on legal issues arising in all 50 states, with a deep knowledge of New York and California law.
  • The judgement to know when to elevate certain matters to the attention of the Vice President, Employment Law and/or the General Counsel and other senior management.
  • The ability to establish and maintain relationships, credibility and trust with clients, stakeholders, legal team members, and other colleagues.
  • Willingness to travel periodically to locations within the United States.
  • High level of organization, attention to detail and positive attitude.
  • Ability to work in person in New York City three (3) days a week, with or without accommodation.

Additionally, these related skills, are nice to have but not required:

  • Previous in-house experience is preferred, though not required if you have strong counseling experience.
  • Experience supporting:
    • a culturally diverse, international workforce
    • technology-related employees 
    • large employers with wide array of corporate functions and personalities  (R&D, manufacturing, distribution, sales, retail stores, field force, brands, corporate etc.) 
    • employers that utilize the services of contingent workers, independent contractors and other non-employees.
