What You Will Do: 

Direct the activities of the Corporate Payroll Accounting, Tax and Support Unit.  This unit has three primary responsibilities.  First, ensure all payroll transactions are accurately booked to our general ledger in a timely manner including P&L and balance sheet account reconciliations.  Second, ensure employment tax compliance including management of our vendor for accurate and timely completion of tax payments and returns.  Third, provide payroll processing support.  This includes payroll funding, benefits, expatriate, and relocation administration. 

  • Respond to internal and external requests in accounting and employment tax matters 

  • Serve as primary contact to the finance and accounting community for all payroll expense related inquiries  

  • Ensure timely and accurate monthly posting of regular payroll expense including fringe (employer payroll expense) and accrual journals to general ledger 

  • Manage completion of balance sheet account reconciliations for all payroll activity including the payroll cash account 

  • Track departmental operational and project expenses including providing detailed variance explanations to department head.   

  • Management of departmental POs 

  • Ensure timely and accurate funding of employment taxes to our vendor 

  • Manage all tax “exception” activity including refunds, tax notices and amended return processing 

  • Serve as point person for employment tax compliance and reporting requirements 

  • Provide net cash projections and actual information to Treasury 

  • Manage the relocation process for payroll activity  

  • Communication with Corporate Tax on all employment tax issues and audits 

  • Complete tax research and provide process recommendations for employment tax issues 

  • Fringe benefit processing including company car taxability calculations 

  • Creation and distribution of payroll accrual calendar  

What We Are Looking For: 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree coupled with 6-8 plus years’ related experience 

  • Prior management history 

  • Multi-state large employer experience 

  • Extensive accounting & employment tax knowledge 

  • Proficient in MS Office applications specifically excel  

  • Physical in-office presence 

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced complex deadline-oriented environment 

  • You  may be expected to travel to Berkeley Heights, NJ up to 20% of your time during the first year of your employment at L'Oreal USA 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Master’s degree 

  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) and/or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) 

  • ADP SmartCompliance & Vantage Payroll Platform experience
