What You Will Do:

Drive YSL’s makeup business under guidance of AVP to increase share of market in competitive landscape with a consumer centric approach.  Drive brand growth by developing innovative strategies and go-to-market plans for both new launches and core businesses with executional excellence.

Own and uncover deep consumer insights to initiate breakthrough communications and data-driven marketing. Perform business & competitive analyses, marketing budget/financial control, and preparing presentations for top management meetings.

 

Job Duties and Accountabilities

  1. New Product Launches:
    1. Product Development: Be the voice of the US for product development by the DMI: share US strategy, point of view and needs to ensure market needs are being met
    2. Dimensioning: Develop forecast proposals for new product launches and samples/GWPs as well as revise forecasts in real time as plans change or trends emerge
    3. Go-to-market: Create and manage 360 plans for new launches and pillars ensuring all key levers are activated and cross-functional teams are hitting deliverable dates
    4. Work with Supply Chain + Demand to ensure consistent flow of communication from DMI with regards to delays and launch timings as well as continuously check stock status of owned product portfolio. Partner with CGO Teams to ensure consistent in-stock presence of key skus especially, leading up to Sephora BI Sales.
    5. Lead product portfolio deck creation for all market meetings and retailer meetings

 

 

 

 

  1. Portfolio Management:
    1. Maintain portfolio: Evaluate product performance to strategically prioritize and allocate resources for optimal ROI, identifying areas of improvement, and keeping the products aligned with the brand’s broader strategy (pillar focus, add/delete, etc.) inclusive of shade ins / outs. Ensure robust partnership and communication with Supply / Demand, CGO and Retailer Partners to plan & align on ins / outs.
    2. Grow business: identify US centric fast moving makeup trend needs gaps as well as strategic areas of opportunities to grow the brand’s portfolio & optimize market performance
    3. Performance analysis: Analyze weekly and monthly sales data, compiling relevant commentary in a report to Senior Management identifying key opportunities and challenges within the business
    4. Partner with Supply / Demand to ensure catalog stock needs are met
    5. Evaluate pricing strategy both for launch skus as well as ongoing price adjustments
    6. Manage sample and GWP / retail tools forecasts for catalog ensuring close partnership with CGO, Education, E-Retail and A&I Teams.

 

  1. Global marketing relationship
    1. Develop strong relationship with global marketing, education, digital, comms / A&I counterparts
    2. Partner with global marketing on US – centric needs inclusive of product development, shades, naming, 360 content, etc.

 

  1. Market consumer analysis:
    1. Develop and analyze business and market data, contribute to drawing conclusions, understand and articulate category knowledge and the customer business cycle
    2. Conduct competitive analysis and market research

 

  1. Content Strategy
    1. Own PDP strategy and layout for new launches and optimize with strong retailer partnership on existing portfolio
    2. Develop brief for any local shoots /creator content needs
    3. Provide DMI with clear content needs and review DMI finished content and provide US-centric feedback

 

  1. Retail Marketing
    1. Brief creative & retail merchandising team on projects including gondola, permanent merchandising and temporary in-store placements (ala towers, FOS tables & glorifiers)
    2. Work with vendors to execute special events and consumer-facing pop-up concepts
    3. Work closely with Education Team on in-store FLC Eventing inclusive of Sephora windows, beauty studio takeovers & in-mall pop-up events

 

  1. Cross-Functional Collaboration
    1. Partner with A&I and Media teams to ensure there is synergy with overall brand marketing positioning and a clear calendar of key activations throughout the year inclusive of always-on seeding, mailers & boosting.

 

 

Key Challenges, Issues and Complexity 

 

YSL is the fastest growing couture makeup brand in the luxury market. With a very promising plan and high ambitions for the coming years with a #1 focus on accelerating the makeup business. The YSL makeup team is looking for a strong makeup expert, in touch with US consumers and trends combined with being able to balance creativity, analytical skills and operational leadership with very different partners to address the challenges to achieve triple digit growth in a very competitive makeup market. 

 

Organization Structure and Key Working Relationships 

  • This role will report directly into the AVP of Makeup Marketing 
  • In addition to the direct brand marketing team – this role will work cross-functionally with the A&I / Comms / Social, Media, CGO Teams, Supply & Demand, Education, Digital, D2C & corresponding Global Teams while also partnering extensively with external key retailers across self-assist and Department / Specialty
  • This role is responsible for being the owner of the US marketing Go-to-market strategy and liaising with all teams on defining our US specific strategy
  • In addition to US team – this role will work hand in hand with the Global Makeup Team

 

Job Dimensions

  • Total Staff: Team is currently made up of 1 AVP, 1 Director with an MT – in addition to this current role

 

What We Are Looking For:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5-7 years of marketing experience in the prestige cosmetics industry, preferably with a focus on makeup
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills. Self-motivated.
  • Proactive problem-solving skills
  • Must be an excellent team player with collaborative mindset, the ability to build, foster and nurture relationships with members of cross-functional teams
  • Ability to handle a fast-paced and ambiguous environment
