Job Title:           Senior Chemist – Industrial Quality  (Night Shift)

What You Will Do:

Support production activity by accurately testing raw materials, components, bulk and finished good products in a timely manner per established L’Oréal and ISO standards and evaluate data to decide release of materials.  Analyze problem situations and decide proper approach, per L’Oréal and ISO methodologies, that will resolve "out of specification" issues promptly and economically.  

What We Are Looking For:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biochemistry, biology, micro-biology or other scientific discipline with emphasis in analytical laboratory procedures, or equivalent experience;
  • 5+ years’ experience in an analytical chemistry laboratory utilizing problem solving approaches;
  • Good communication skills;
  • Attention to detail, ability to follow detailed procedures;
  • Ability to multi-task/prioritize.

 

Judgement and Decision Making:

Decisions made by the Industrial Quality Chemist can directly impact Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, Environment and Morale. They must make these decisions with only intermittent involvement from Supervision based on the knowledge gained from their trainings.

 

Safety: Fully supports an independent safety culture and works proactively to accomplish the safety mission in the plant of Zero Accidents.

 

Quality: Supports and embraces the quality mission of the plant.

 

Delivery: The ability of the chemist to meet the production demands ensures that our customers receive our products on time.

 

Cost: Operation of the chemist activities according to the standards ensure that cost to produce is aligned with the financials.

 

Environment: Supports and embraces the environmental mission of the plant.

 

Morale: Must be an actively engaged employee exhibiting a positive attitude and a focus on teamwork to achieve best in class results.

 

General Job Duties:

  • Accurately test raw materials or bulk finished goods, using advanced qualitative and quantitative chemical analysis such as gas chromatography, infra-red spectroscopy (F.T.I.R), wet chemistry analysis, separation analysis, distillation techniques, etc., to insure compliance with established L’Oréal USA standards.
  • Utilize professional judgment to decide proper resolution of out of specification issues such as, release of non - standard material or product based on historical trends, re-mix and resample bulk batches, chemical adjustment of material, high speed sheer mix of product, etc.
  • Analyze test data and decide the release of raw materials, components, bulk and finished goods.  Complete final release in a timely manner.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment while keeping appropriate logs and documentation.   Maintain laboratory supplies.
  • Interact effectively with Processing and Packaging Departments to provide support as necessary.  Interact with fellow laboratory employees to provide seamless support across all shifts and weekends.
  • Observe Good Laboratory Practices, ensure compliance with Chemical Hygiene Program, and maintain high level of housekeeping in work areas at all times.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED IN JOB:

 

  • Computer, telephone, copy machine, fax machine and other office equipment as required.
  • Current PC Skills utilizing Excel, Access and related MS Office Software are necessary for success
