The Consumer Science Department is a specialized team focused on what drives consumer product satisfaction, observing product usage behaviors and providing in-depth analysis after product use.  This team also continually explores and creates new ways of testing with the consumer being at the center of product evaluation.

This position will work on innovation,  aid-to-formulation and development projects for products manufactured by L’Oreal USA.

As a Senior Research Scientist within the Product Performance Evaluation – Consumer Science department, this position is responsible for the following with respect to the projects led from the US:

Job Responsibilities:

  • Interact with formulators and Product Performance Managers (PPMs) to determine the consumer testing and consumer knowledge needs of the labs
  • Design and execute consumer studies, specifically qualitative and quantitative consumer tests from inception to completion with quality, timeliness and professionalism
  • Test the relationship among consumer sensory perception, expert panel results and instrumental readings
  • Draft screeners for recruitment and work closely with Logistics team to ensure proper recruitment is completed
  • Design and execute lab and field observational studies on how consumers apply/use products and evaluate product satisfaction
  • Conduct one-on-one interviews concerning the sensory attributes of products and consumer attitudes, beliefs and behaviors
  • Analyze consumer test data and write reports to clearly communicate findings to the formulation chemists
  • Develop and scout for innovative research techniques to elicit the needs, desires and attitudes of consumers
  • Coordinate testing with outside vendors
  • Form ties to professional organizations in appropriate fields
  • Work with consumers,  sensory/consumer scientists, formulators, and Global Consumer Science counterparts, instrumental and clinical/scientists, outside vendors, academics and consultants
  • Prioritize project workload with R&I team

Requirements:

  • BS or Master's or PhD in Psychology, Sociology or science related field
  • 5+ years’ experience in consumer/sensory research
  • 3+ years’ experience with personal care products, a plus
  • Knowledge of experimental design and scientific method
  • Knowledge and experience using both parametric and non-parametric statistics
  • Creativity in developing new testing methods
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication (written/oral) and organizational skills
  • Survey and questionnaire design skills
  • Technical writing skills and able to digest consumer data into succinct, actionable insights
  • Ability to speak French a plus
  • Proficient in Word, PowerPoint, data entry and statistical software programs
  • Must be able to work on several complex projects at the same time with flexibility and organization
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the US on an on-going basis
