What You Will Learn:


The Packaging Science Center develops disruptive materials and technologies for the next generation of packaging that will be deployed by the group. To achieve these ambitious objectives, we have created integrated teams of diverse packaging experts that focus on key areas of upstream innovation. Within the Materials Science domain, our experts explore, experiment, and validate the future materials that allow us to move from fossil-based raw materials to recycled or bio-based polymers.

As an Associate Principal Scientist in our Materials Science domain, your main responsibilities are:

  • Develop and grow North & South America-based recycled or bio-based polymers external partners ecosystem to continuously improve the L’Oréal portfolio of plastic materials, create innovation new frontier, and support L’Oréal for the Future objectives.
  • Lead efforts to map, scout, identify and assess new technology and new partners to support the PSC transition to fossil free plastic.
  • Lead as key technical contact and relationship owner of North & South America-based packaging material science partners to introduce new technology to the Packaging community for evaluation and collaboration.
  • Function as project leader to build project timelines, milestones, and deliverables, and put contracts in place through coordination with legal and business development team.
  • Cultivate partnership and exchange with internal and external innovation partners by compiling meeting minutes, and technical reports.
  • Collaborate with local and global team as a technical expert in matters pertaining to Polymers and Plastic Materials, Bio-based Polymers, or Advanced Recycling Technologies
  • Performance technical safety assessment of potential partners with Materials Science domain team.
  • Represent the Packaging Science community externally at academic and industry conferences as well as speaking engagements.
  • Approximately 20% travel



What We Are Looking For:

  • Advanced technical degree (M.S. or Ph.D) in Polymers, Material Sciences/ Engineering, Chemical Engineering is required.
  • 5-7 years industry experience required, preferably in biotech, pharma, food, chemical, or consumer products sectors.
  • Experience in performing technology scouting, IP mapping, research, innovation, benchmarking is a plus.
  • Strong experience in project management.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple projects and priorities concurrently, detail-oriented, proactive and self-motivated.
  • Experience in plastic materials, fossil, non-fossil, bio-based and bio-degradable polymers
  • Scientific background and proficiency in petrochemical materials and processes, bio-alternatives and depolymerization, plastic waste management and recycling technologies.
  • Knowledge of French is a plus.
  • Authorization to work in the United States on a full-time, permanent, ongoing basis without the need for legal sponsorship now or in the future (required).
