Scientist, Skin Care Instrumental/Clinical Evaluation

We are seeking a creative Scientist to join our Skin Care Instrumental/Clinical Team. As a key member of the team you’ll design, coordinate, and execute instrumental studies of skin care products manufactured by L’Oreal USA that will support innovation, aid to formulation testing, and claims substantiation. In this function you will be working cross functionally with the development labs as well as safety, regulatory and claims legal teams.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Organizes, plans, and effectively executes instrumental testing to support aid to formulation and innovation studies for skin care products;
  • Works with third party vendors to designs, coordinate, and execute appropriate clinical studies on skincare products to support claims substantiation
  • Collaborates with labs, international colleagues, and evaluation team to determine which test methods are needed;
  • Maintains instrumentation and laboratory equipment and ensures proper operation/maintenance documentation;
  • Analyzes instrumental test data and writes reports and memos to clearly communicate findings and share information with colleagues;
  • Works on expanding knowledge of skin, including executing research studies when needed;
  • Drives projects from inception to completion with quality, timeliness, and professionalism;
  • Prioritizes projects workload with supervisor, performs project tracking and scheduling;


  • Bachelors with 3+ years of relevant working experience in Evaluation; OR Masters with 1+ years of relevant working experience in Evaluation; preferred areas of study include Biological, Physical or Material Sciences, Chemistry, Psychology, Chemical Engineering or Bio-Engineering, Bioinformatics or related fields;
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication (written/oral), and organizational skills a must;
  • Must be able to work on several complex projects at the same time with flexibility and organization;
  • Knowledge of US/ international cosmetics and OTC regulations a plus;
  • Experience coordinating product testing with outside vendors a plus;
  • Strong statistical background and knowledge a plus
  • Capable of working in a matrix organization, including strong teamwork skills a must;
  • Technical writing skills a must;
  • Experience with experimental lab work and equipment maintenance and troubleshooting a must;
  • Experience with skin care evaluation tools such as Instron, Corneometer, FTIR, contact angle, Spectrophotometer, Chromameter, Cutometer, TEWL measurement, 3D modeling/printing, friction and/or tack measurements, shine measurement, clinical photography, and/or Visia a plus;
  • Knowledge of automation and machine learning a plus;
  • Must be proficient in Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook;
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the US on an on-going basis.
